Sepia Saturday #26

I found another photo of my Uncle Kenny.  He always looks so cool in his photos.  He really was around way before James Dean.  That farm that this is taken at is a familiar background to a lot of my photos of that era.  I don't know where it is but I will ask my Uncle when I see him.  He is 93 years old now and lives in Murray, Iowa.  The place looks a lot junky and they were poor even though they have automobiles.  I don't have any way to date this photo but I bet car people can date the car for me.

I keep finding photos for the first time in my life and it is exciting. I am the young one in this photo. My mom lost a child right after I was born, so photos of me were very few and far between. I bet there are a dozen in existence and all of them are blurry. The photo says that it was taken at the Ray Woods farm. I cleared up the photo a little with photoshop so the two guys on the right look better than the original.  I didn't come out of the fog.

By my age in the photo I am assuming this is 1951. I was born in March of 1950 and this looks like a year later.  It is taken on the farm where my Dad was renting the land.  If it is 1951 that makes the first guy, Ron, in the hat, at the age of 10.  My brother Rex is probably 9 who is holding me.  My brother Dwight would be 4 in this picture.

My mom liked to tell the story that since my folks were share cropping to pay their rent. The landowners Ray Woods and wife said that Larry was also half their boy too.

That is a cool pose by Uncle Kenny - by today's standards, he looks like he is making a music video! I bet the girls loved him!
Cute photo of you and your brothers - thanks for sharing it and the cute story.

Very nice photo of Kenny & the car. If he is 93 and was about 20 years old give or take some years the photo might be about 1937?? Yes these photos can keep us busy; you will see that I acquired more on our recent trip home to PA...that adds to the mess already piled about the extra downstairs bedroom. Good thing I don't have company who needs to be in there right now!:)

The photos are precious. They capture a moment in Americana.

Love the car! Oh to take a ride in it with the top down along a bumpy country lane on a warm summer day. It would have probably knocked all the teeth out of my head out.

Uncle Kenny looks very much in his element. You and your brothers were a handsome little group of boys!

I agree with Enchanted Oak about how these photos capture Americana--I think that's true of all your Sepia Saturday pictures. I'm also guessing that Pat's guess on the Uncle Kenny photo must be pretty close.

You are so right about that first photograph - it is the epitome of cool. And congratulations on the clean-up job on the second photograph - there is something so satisfying in returning these old photographs to their former glory.

It's Thursday and I'm just now getting around to all the Sepia Saturday posts. Loved these photos. Uncle Kenny does remind me of James Dean.

What great pictures! I bet your Uncle Kenny was popular with the ladies! Definitely James Dean-esque, but way cooler since he was (is) your uncle.

Words get beyond me when I look at old photos and the nostagia begins to swell.
I remeber the hardships and the pioneering strength in our families. Fun was enjoyed from simple pleasures that are taken for granted today. Close relationships forged with everyone helping the other.
I note the huge hand size of the boy holding you. There is a strength and protection to include the baby with the rest of them.
We are missing much of this closeness today.

Hi Larry, I had my Dad look at the car, he said he thinks it is a 1925 or 1926 Dodge or Chrysler.. I hope that helps..he looked at one other of your car photos too..off I go to find it! :)

I love the overalls you guys all had. I never wore overalls till I was a teen and they were stylish.
